Munich, 1938: After the November pogroms, the Jewish restaurant Schwarz lies in ruins. The owner and head chef, Richard Schwarz, has been sent to the Dachau concentration camp. Now, the business is to be liquidated by the "lawyer" Edgar Enders. The problem: The restaurant was heavily in debt, and the Aryan creditors are insisting on getting their money back. Edgar has a bold idea: Together with the Jew Richard, he establishes the Schwarz Cooking School – offering crash courses for Jews wishing to emigrate, helping them improve their chances of obtaining a visa by learning a trade.
