Filming Wrapped: Kochschule Schwarz Coming to Cinemas in 2026
That’s a wrap: Dani Levy has completed filming his new tragicomedy Kochschule Schwarz. Shot on location in Vienna, Munich, and Nuremberg, the film is based on a true story: After the destruction of the legendary Jewish restaurant Schwarz during the Reichskristallnacht, the charismatic jack-of-all-trades Edgar (Florian David Fitz) sees his long-awaited chance to establish himself among the Nazi elite. With the outrageous idea of opening a cooking school for Jews—so they can improve their chances of fleeing abroad—he manages to charm the Munich Nazi leadership. But the plan quickly spirals out of control: the cooking school descends into chaos, Edgar secretly delivers Jewish food to the Nazis behind the students’ backs, and the Gauleiter’s wife (Sunnyi Melles) rises to fame as a new celebrity chef. What begins as a whirlwind of lies slowly turns into a struggle between life and death. All too late, cooking student Antonia (Hannah Herzsprung) uncovers the truth behind Edgar, the phony lawyer.
